STAR 2015

July 13, 2015

Last week we wrapped up our efforts during STAR, which stands for summer transition, advising and registration. During this orientation program, we had the privilege of meeting incoming honors students and their families. We warmly welcomed the newest members of our community and gave them a preview of the opportunities available to Honors College students. Student ambassadors joined us and shared their Honors College experience with the class of 2019. Honors advisors met with students to assist with choosing HONR courses.

Working with incoming first-year Honors College students throughout the last month has been an exciting and informative experience. Learning more about their academic interests and goals, sharing leadership opportunities, and helping them enhance their Fall schedule with the first-year seminar, HONR 19901: The Evolution of Ideas has created a busy, but rewarding, four weeks!

Topics that were covered were The Evolution of Ideas course, upcoming Honors College community events, and student leadership opportunities like the Cultural Companions program. Cultural Companions is a leadership program to support incoming international students. First year domestic students apply and, if selected, are paired with international students. Applications for the program are due July 17th. Learn more and apply here.

We look forward to seeing all of our students, new and continuing, at our fall welcome events this August.
